Tuesday June 22 - OFFSIDE - video showing of film by Jafar Panahi

7:00 pm

Offside (Persian: آفساید ) is a 2006 Iranian film about girls who try to watch a World Cup qualifying match but are forbidden by law because of their sex. Female fans are not allowed to enter football stadiums in Iran on the grounds that there will be a high risk of violence or verbal abuse against them. The film was inspired by director Jafar Panahi's daughter, who decided to attend a game anyway. The film was shot in Iran during qualifying matches and captures the excitement of the events. Its screening was banned there, but bootleg copies of the film flooded the streets during soccer season.

On March 1, 2010 Jafar Panahi was arrested for unspecified actions against the regime. During May Panahi went on a hunger strike. Largely due to international protest, including from many artists and filmmakers, Panahi was released on May 25, 2010, on $200,000 bail. He is still charged and a trial is pending.

7:30 pm Discussion: Revolutionary Eye on Iran

If you want revolution—in fact, if you are at all concerned about the course of events on the
planet right now—you need to keep your eye on Iran. Iran is a hotspot—a point where both
moves to war and possibilities for revolution could come to a boil. There are three major levels to what is going on there that we need to understand:

1. What Is Going On Inside Iran

2. The International Setting

3. The Revolutionary Movement

Nobody can say where all this will end. What we can say is that there is both great danger and
very great potential here—and a great need to build a movement FOR REVOLUTION that is
internationalist in its outlook and actions.

Revolution Books is part of building a movement for revolution,
that is scientific and poetic, wrangling and visionary: it is alive with a defiant spirit that refuses to accept that the horrors of today’s world have to be.

At the heart of Revolution Books is the cutting-edge work of Bob Avakian, whose new synthesis of communism envisions a radically new society that is overcoming all of the oppression of the current world while giving great scope to intellectual work, ferment and dissent as integral to the complete emancipation of humanity.

We have an extensive collection of books on history and political theory, novels and poetry, atheism and science, geopolitics and philosophy. Check out the weekly discussions, author readings, open-mic, film screenings and major forums.

Thursday June 3: Speak out and MARCH Against Israeli Massacre 4 pm--

Revolutionary Protest against Israeli massacre

Thursday, June 3
4pm Speak-out at Powell and Market, San Francisco
5pm March to the Israeli consulate

Look around at the world we live in: a capitalist oil disaster in the Gulf, fascism in Arizona, cold-blooded police murder of 7 year old Ayana Stanley-Jones, escalating war and torture in Afghanistan, and now, another outrageous massacre by Israel to enforce their horrific and criminal strangulation of Gaza. Enough is enough!

The days when this system can just keep on doing what it does to people, here and all over the world…when people are not inspired and organized to stand up against these outrages and to build up the strength to put an end to this madness…those days must be GONE. And they CAN be.

The World does NOT have to be this way.

Ethnic cleansing has no right to exist! Oppression and exploitation... no right to exist! U.S. imperialism and their strategic attack dog, the state of Israel... no right to exist!

If you are disgusted by Israel... if you are heartsick about the state of planet... if you want to fight this shit... then you need to be there! If you can imagine a world without borders and divisions between peoples, where one nation doesn't rule over and dominate others, then be part of making that world, that future real.

Thursday June 3: Report Back on RCP Conference - The Revolution We Need...The Leadership We Have

THURSDAY, JUNE 3, 7PM

The Revolutionary Communist Party, USA has undertaken an historic campaign - THE REVOLUTION WE NEED...THE LEADERSHIP WE HAVE... - as the crucial step right now to build a movement for revolution in this country, and to bring forward a new stage of communist revolution in the world. Last weekend, conferences were held to discuss how to prepare for taking this campaign to a whole other level.

As the Call in the Revolution newspaper for people to participate in the conferences last weekend put it,

People need to hear and see that things DON'T have to be this way. They need to hear about revolution. And they need to know there is a Party that is building a movement for revolution. That is what this campaign is about. We aim to make known to millions the goal and character of this revolution, communist revolution, as it has been revitalized and reconceived by Bob Avakian; to make the leader of this revolution a household word; and through all this to forge a core of dedicated fighters who are going to advocate for this revolution and make it a driving dynamic force in society and the world.

Join us for a report back on this conference, to get into bold and exciting plans off the conference, and to become part of this, starting now. The first step starts on Friday which marks the beginning of ten days of distributing 200,000 copies across the country of "The Revolution We Need . . . The Leadership We Have,"a Message and Call from the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA.

Come and be part of forging plans, organizing teams, brainstorming about places and events throughout Northern California where this statement needs to appear over the next 10 days. Your ideas, creativity, energy and struggle - your participation - is needed.
